TL;DR
- OpenAI's Dots are persistent AI agents (powered by GPT-6 Astra) that keep working between conversations, you can task one with monitoring your ChatGPT Ads campaigns around the clock.
- Through the Ads Manager plugin, HubSpot, and Metaflow, your dot can check spend pacing, flag underperforming creatives, and prepare daily performance briefs without you logging into the dashboard.
- Set up Custom Rules so your dot reads campaign data autonomously but needs your approval before making changes, adjusting budgets, or spending money.
- Use the copy-paste prompt blocks below for five common ad-ops jobs: daily health check, creative QA, spend pacing, competitor intel, and weekly recap.
- Pair your dot with Slack or Teams notifications so you get alerts when something needs your eyes, no more hourly dashboard refreshes.
OpenAI hit $1 billion in annualized ad revenue in under 200 days after launching ChatGPT Ads, then followed up with Dots, always-on AI agents that can work toward a goal 24/7 (Search Engine Land, 2026). If you're running campaigns on the platform, you now have a way to stop living inside Ads Manager. Here is exactly how to use chatgpt dots for chatgpt ads, setup, prompt templates, and the watchpoints that keep your dot useful instead of dangerous.
What Chatgpt Dots for Chatgpt Ads Actually Look Like in Practice
A ChatGPT Dot is not a chatbot session you refresh. It is a persistent agent, powered by GPT-6 Astra with its own cloud computer, its own browser, and access to the 4,000+ apps in ChatGPT's plugin ecosystem (OpenAI, Introducing Dots). Once you give your dot a goal, it keeps working toward that goal between conversations. It messages you with progress and questions. It learns what "good" looks like from your feedback.
For an advertiser running campaigns on ChatGPT Ads, this changes the daily ops rhythm. Instead of opening Ads Manager every morning to check spend pacing, review creative fatigue, or pull a performance report, you can hand those recurring jobs to your dot. The dot reads the same dashboards, prepares the same briefs, and flags the same anomalies, but it does it while you sleep, and it surfaces only what needs a human decision. That is the core promise of chatgpt dots for chatgpt ads: an always-on monitoring layer between you and the dashboard.
The concept is still new, and OpenAI themselves note that Dots "can still make mistakes, so always review consequential work." But for read-only monitoring and draft preparation, a well-configured implementation of chatgpt dots for chatgpt ads is already faster and more consistent than a human refreshing four browser tabs.
Ads inside ChatGPT are not a Dot plugin. The decision keeps them off the Google and Meta rows.
Which Ad Tools Work With Chatgpt Dots for Chatgpt Ads
Your dot's capabilities depend entirely on which plugins you connect. Not every plugin supports chatgpt dots for chatgpt ads, here is what the current ChatGPT plugin directory looks like for advertising workflows as of October 2026:
Right now, neither Meta nor Google offers a first-party ads plugin that a dot can use in ChatGPT's directory (The Keyword, 2026). Hand Google and Meta spend to Metaflow. The Dot asks. Metaflow reads the connected account. You approve the write.
Key rule for safe dot configuration: Allow your dot to read campaign data from every connected plugin, but require approval for any action that changes budget, bid, creative, or campaign status. This is where Custom Rules become your most important setup step when using chatgpt dots for chatgpt ads.
Your own ad account is a different problem: no first-party Google Ads plugin.
What a Dot can connect at all is the plugin list. ChatGPT Ads is not on it.
How to Set Up Chatgpt Dots for Chatgpt Ads Campaign Management
Setting up a dot for ads work takes about ten minutes. The critical step is configuring permissions so your dot can observe without spending. These setup steps apply to any advertiser configuring chatgpt dots for chatgpt ads.
- Create your dot. In the ChatGPT desktop app or desktop browser (Pro, Business Premium, or Enterprise), give your dot a name and avatar. If you manage multiple ad accounts, name it something like "Ads-Ops" or "Campaign-Check."
- Set Custom Rules. This is the non-negotiable step. Create rules that:
- Allow read-only access to campaign performance data, spend figures, and creative assets.
- Require approval before any write action, changing a bid, pausing an ad, updating creative, or creating a new campaign.
- Block any action that involves payment information, passwords, or account settings.
- Define your dot's ongoing responsibility. In your first conversation with the dot, describe its job in plain language. Tell it which campaigns to watch, what metrics matter to you, how often you want updates, and where to flag issues.
- Give your dot a place to report. Dots work across ChatGPT, Slack, and Teams. Set up a channel, even a private Slack thread or a dedicated ChatGPT conversation, where the dot sends its daily briefs and alerts.
Going live is still allow, approve, or block.
5 Jobs You Can Assign With Chatgpt Dots for Chatgpt Ads
Each of the following sections includes a copy-paste prompt block you can drop into your dot's conversation to assign the job. These five jobs cover the most common chatgpt dots for chatgpt ads use cases.
1. Daily Campaign Health Check With Chatgpt Dots for Chatgpt Ads
Every morning your dot checks that yesterday's campaigns delivered within expected ranges and flags anything unusual before your coffee is ready. This is the lowest-risk, highest-return use of chatgpt dots for chatgpt ads, read-only data synthesis that saves you ten minutes a day.
Assign this prompt: "Every morning at 7 AM my time, check the performance of all active campaigns in the Ads Manager plugin. For each campaign, pull impressions, clicks, CTR, spend, and cost-per-click for the last 24 hours. Compare each metric to the previous 7-day average. If any campaign shows a CTR drop of more than 20% or a CPC increase of more than 30% day-over-day, flag it in a bold alert. Send the report to me in a Slack DM. Do not pause or change any campaign, only report."
2. Creative Performance QA
ChatGPT Ads have tight character limits, headlines cap around 16 characters and descriptions around 32 (Mad Genius, 2026). Your dot can check whether your active creatives are within spec and whether any are showing signs of fatigue.
Assign this prompt: "Twice a week, review every active creative across all campaigns. Check that all headlines and descriptions stay within the recommended character limits. Flag any creative that has been running for more than 14 days with a CTR below 0.5%. For each flagged creative, draft a replacement headline and description that stays on-brand but changes the messaging angle. Present the drafts in a table [current creative → proposed replacement → rationale] and wait for my approval before submitting anything."
3. Spend Pacing Alert
Budget overruns happen fast in a new ad platform. Your dot can track daily spend against your campaign budget and alert you before you blow past your target.
Assign this prompt: "Every day at noon and again at 6 PM, check the spend-to-date for every campaign against its daily budget in the Ads Manager plugin. Calculate the remaining budget and the hours left in the day. If a campaign has spent more than 70% of its daily budget before 4 PM, send an urgent Slack message with the campaign name, current spend, and recommended action (raise budget, pause, or let it run). Never change a budget without my approval."
4. Competitor Ad Intel Scan
Using connected competitive-intel plugins, your dot can monitor what competing brands are doing on ChatGPT Ads.
5. Weekly Performance Recap
Instead of spending Monday morning pulling a report, have your dot prepare it over the weekend.
Assign this prompt: "Every Sunday evening, produce a 200-word performance recap for the past week. Include: total spend, total impressions, average CTR, cost-per-click, campaigns that improved week-over-week, campaigns that declined, and one recommendation for next week's focus. Send the recap to the #ads-reporting Slack channel and save a copy to the main dot conversation. If total spend exceeded budget by more than 10%, add a one-sentence root-cause hypothesis."
What a Dot-Managed Morning Looks Like (Worked Example)
Let's say you run three ChatGPT Ads campaigns: a brand-awareness campaign (CPM), a lead-gen campaign (CPC), and a retargeting campaign (CPM).
6:30 AM, Your dot pings you in Slack: ⚠️ Pacing Alert: Retargeting campaign "Retarget-Q4" has spent 78% of its daily budget by 6:30 AM. Estimated daily overage: 34%. Likely cause: weekend auction dynamics increased CPMs. Recommend: let it run today and increase tomorrow's budget by 20%, or pause until noon. Your call.
6:31 AM, You reply: "Let it run. Raise tomorrow's budget."
6:35 AM, Your dot messages again: ✅ Yesterday's Health Check:
- Brand awareness: CTR 1.2% (7-day avg: 1.1%) ✅
- Lead gen: CPC $4.87 (7-day avg: $4.22) ⚠️, CPC up 15%. Creative "Lead-v3" has been running 18 days.
- Retargeting: CTR 0.31% (7-day avg: 0.52%) 🔴, CTR dropped 40%. Recommend creative refresh.
6:40 AM, Your dot presents a draft replacement for "Lead-v3" and "Retarget-Q4" creatives. You review, approve one, revise the other, and move on.
Total time spent: under five minutes. The dot did the monitoring, the flagging, the drafting, and the math, you made the decisions.
When Your Chatgpt Dots for Chatgpt Ads Make Mistakes (and How to Catch Them)
Dots are powerful, but they are not infallible. Even well-configured chatgpt dots for chatgpt ads produce errors. Here are the failure modes to watch for:
| Mistake | What Happens | How to Catch It |
|---|---|---|
| Hallucinated metric | Dot reports a CTR that doesn't match Ads Manager | Always verify bold claims with a quick dashboard check before acting |
| Stale plugin data | Dot uses yesterday's cached data instead of live figures | Set a Custom Rule that forces the dot to refresh plugin data before reporting |
| Permission confusion | Dot says it cannot access a campaign because the plugin token expired | Check plugin connections weekly; re-authenticate when prompted |
| Over-aggressive flagging | Dot treats normal statistical variance as a crisis | Tune your prompts: add "only flag if the change exceeds 20%" thresholds |
| Creative draft drift | Dot's replacement creative drifts off-brand or uses generic language | Always review drafts; never auto-approve creative changes |
The best defense is the same advice OpenAI gives: review consequential work. Let your dot surface and draft, but keep decisions and launch in your hands. Over a few weeks, you will learn which of your dot's judgment calls you trust and which need a tighter prompt. If you prefer a structured way to track these trust patterns across multiple agents, Metaflow's ad monitoring playbook formalizes the review cadence into a configurable ops script, one that can live alongside your dot's recurring prompts instead of replacing them.
FAQ
How much does it cost to use a ChatGPT Dot for ad management?
Dots are included with ChatGPT Pro ($200/month), Business Premium, and Enterprise plans. There is no per-dot or per-task fee on top of the plan cost. You pay for the ChatGPT Ads campaigns themselves through the Ads Manager or your agency partner.
Can my dot adjust bids or budgets automatically?
Only if you allow it via Custom Rules. Every write action, bid change, budget update, creative replacement, can be gated behind your approval. For most ad ops workflows, the safest configuration is read-only monitoring with human-in-the-loop approval for any change.
Do Dots work with Google Ads and Meta Ads?
Not through first-party plugins. Meta and Google have not published first-party ChatGPT plugins for their ad platforms. Add the Metaflow plugin. The Dot asks. Metaflow reads. You approve.
Will my dot's campaign data be used to train OpenAI's models?
On Business, Enterprise, and Edu plans, OpenAI does not use workspace content to improve models by default. On personal plans, you can control this in your data settings. Dots' proactive research and internal notes are not trained on directly (OpenAI, Dots Safety).
How do I know if my dot is working on my campaigns overnight?
Your dot messages you with progress, questions, or decisions that need you. You can also open Activity View in the ChatGPT desktop app to see what your dot has been doing in the background, including which plugins it accessed and what actions it considered.
Ready to Hand Off the Morning Crawl?
ChatGPT Ads is growing fast, the platform reached $1 billion in annualized revenue in under 200 days, expanded to 60+ countries, and added CPC bidding, Conversions API, and Sponsored Agents in a single year (OpenAI, New Ways to Buy ChatGPT Ads). The pace of change means the manual dashboard crawl you did yesterday may already be missing a new optimization lever, a new market, or a new audience signal.
Dots give advertisers a way to keep up without burning out. By connecting the Ads Manager plugin, setting clear Custom Rules, and assigning recurring jobs with the prompts above, you can turn a GPT-6 Astra agent into a competent ad-ops assistant that handles the monitoring, the math, and the first draft, so you can focus on the creative and strategic decisions that algorithms cannot make.
For more on setting up your first campaigns and understanding the full ChatGPT Ads interface, read our guide on how to buy ads on ChatGPT and our breakdown of the OpenAI Ads Manager dashboard. If you are running multi-platform campaigns, our AI ad campaign monitoring framework covers how to coordinate dots, dashboards, and approval workflows across channels.
ChatGPT Ads is not Google Ads and not Meta Ads. The Metaflow plugin is a Metaflow workspace inside ChatGPT, not an ads plugin and not a CRM plugin. The Dot still does not run the ad account; the Metaflow plugin runs the performance marketing agent from ChatGPT.
